Hike & Swim Trail: Deer Might Be Watching

Location: Devils Canyon Dam Truck Trail, Azusa, CA

Date: 2024/07/14

The Devils Canyon Dam Truck Trail is a hiking route that runs alongside the West Fork of the San Gabriel River. The path is paved, allowing bicycles and electric bikes, but cars are prohibited.

The trail boasts stunning scenery, with a unique creek running alongside it, adding a sense of serenity and the soothing sound of flowing water. Along the way, hikers often encounter towering trees and diverse wildlife—even large animals like deer, offering delightful surprises. The creek is easily accessible, perfect for wading in to wash away fatigue or, in summer, taking a refreshing swim.

The trail is highly popular, especially the section near the parking lot, which often gets overcrowded. Unfortunately, the heavy foot traffic has also led to an overwhelming amount of litter, scattered everywhere—a truly disheartening sight. Since it was my first visit, I wasn’t prepared with trash-collecting tools, but next time, I’ll come ready to help clean up.
